Following the disaster with the “engine rebuild“, I needed to be more friendly to Heidi. This means spending more time with her and fiddling with bits. The trip to Silverdale resulted in some repairs and some jobs to be done. Here are some of them:
- Repair the tap
- Door hinges
- Removable steering wheel
- Respray the front grill
- New rugs
- Captains chair on drivers side
- Extend the hat shelf
- New steps
- Exhaust bandage
- New USB sockets
This resulted in a rush of design, purchase and activity. This is what Ive achieved in the first week!
So –
- tap repaired – cut groove along the crack and filled with araldite. Also increased the thickness of the plate which releases the microswitch which allows the pump to run.
- Ordered new door hinges, but a friend on Classic Hymers was offering odd ones for a fiver, so I got one to replace the broken one.
- Took steering wheel off and moved captains chair to drivers side, but … the swivel raises the seat too much for me (I’m too tall!) plus there is an offset on the seats – right to the right and left to the left – switch them round and the seats are a bit close together for comfort. If I was to make the drivers seat swivel, it would cost about £250 for a new steering wheel and quick release kit plus £80 for a swivel and a load of work fitting it in the right place. A t the moment that seems too much to do. The #6 done as well.
- Found a firm to respray the grill. Could also do it myself but I need to be patient with lots of sanding. Maybe later!
- We found some new rugs at Dunelm and bought replacements for what we didn’t like, however, when we tried them out, we found one more would allow us to cut them to be almost fully fitted. So we ordered the other one on click and collect. I fitted them which was very easy as the rubber back just cuts with scissors. They look fantastic! Cost about £80 and are washable!
- see above
- Done!
- Drew them out and gave them to a local engineering firm. Still waiting (still waiting in October!)
- Done, plus passed the MOT
- Fitted – work great. Maybe need to add a switch?
You’ll notice in the pictures the fridge. – We also had the fridge shelves powder coated and they look marvellous. Under the bottom shelf are 2 cloth bags which Sandra though would make good containers for veg which we normally have floating around in tatty bags. They work well.
MOT – just after this we had the MOT which passed (second time lucky having failed on breaks and an exhaust crack) The breaks were thoroughly cleaned and work a treat now.
