We’re free! Its arrived, the long awaited day when camping and motorhoming can begin again. The journey through the Covid 19 pandemic will be well documented elsewhere but here are some highlights for us.
- We locked down over a week before the government announced everyone should stay at home. We did this because it was clear we were high risk having pre-existing conditions.
- We were very lucky to have friends do our shopping until supermarkets home delivery stabilised again. (One still supermarket shops for us for fresh stuff.)
- We were very compliant, a bit scared and hardly saw a human being for the best part of 4 months. (Despite my mother dying during that time and we had to organise and attend her funeral).
- We continued to stay at home until June 15th when we felt ready to see people and only close family complied.
The government announced campsites could open on July 4th and by this time we felt a little stir crazy and thought having a different view would be beneficial. Silverdale ticked the boxes so we rang and booked 4 nights from July 6th. We expected the site to be busy, but not as busy as it was. There were unexpected issues with van doors facing away from each other and which pitch we could use, but we got settled on a lovely grass pitch which it turned out we had used exactly a year before!!
We walked around a bit and even attempted the pub but, bottled out as the restrictions seemed too challenging. One day was shit weather and the rest were cooler than we expected but hey ho, we were out and about. The van performed beautifully, but there were issues! The kitchen tap leaked and the stable door fell off being the biggest of a few issues. There was a list of other jobs big and small to work on as we came away.
