Itching to get started this year, we were looking for a nice week weather wise. We spotted it. We had appointments and so we decided the next week wasn't so bad and we missed the hottest February week ever!!! The next week was half term and the nearer we got to going the worse the weather forecast for Silverdale became. We should have gone to the east coast really but couldn't find anywhere which ticks as many boxes as Gibraltar Farm - sea views, easy walking, dog friendly pub nearby, cafe nearby, not too pricey.
Still we went to Silverdale. It was half term but not too busy but a little more expensive. It was the same week we went last year! We got there and it was nice -we went for a walk, cooked tea, looked at the lambs and it started raining. It rained for 28 hours. 🙁 There was some drizzle and we managed a walk and a trip to the a different pub which is now dog friendly and had a nice open fire and was very welcoming. We helped sheep find missing 3 day old lambs in the dark. We worried about lambs drowning in torrential downpours in the night. It dried up and got warmer and all in all wasn't too bad.
On Friday coming home we decided to visit Arnside, but couldn't park safely even with Sandra's blue badge so we went along the coast towards Milnthorpe. We found a 5 place car park / picnic spot exclusively for disabled parking and stopped for a walk along the embankment with fabulous views across the top end of the bay, then we moved to Sandside and parked at the roadside for lunch. Just as we were relaxing, we heard a roar and turned to see the Arnside Bore - a 12" ripple of the turning tide coming up the estuary. Not very dramatic, but definitely worth seeing! It was a treat especially as in the past we had been specifically to see it and been disappointed.
