I was doing checking the leisure batteries and noticed that the drivers door had become difficult to open, to the point where it was resisting being fully open and stretching the top hinges. These hinges were already a bit loose but could do without further strain. I decided to remove the gas strut which controls the door opening, and repair the hinges. Removing a gas strut required the addition of a length of string to stop the door smashing into the rear view mirror.
The hinges were attached to the door pillar with pop rivets which, when drilled out revealed large screw holes. Eventually I found some large diameter screws and fixed them. The gas strut needed either re-gassing or replacement. This is something I didn’t realise was possible. I didn’t even realise a gas strut could de-gass. A replacement was sourced, delivered and fitted and now the door opens and shuts itself.
Result!!
Next is the bed struts! Now I know they could be swapped I am on their case. Once the MOT is done (this week), I will be on it like a rash! What will a bed which goes up and down without much force be like? Maybe Sandra could do it!
