Cam Belt 2

So, we were dropped off at the garage on a Friday night and I walked home to fetch our car and unloaded the van.  The garage owner very kindly came to meet us and collect the keys, but we hadn’t finished unpacking and we arranged for me to drop the keys in the morning. This suited as it meant I could have a more relaxed conversation with him.  He assured us he would sort it.  He refitted the belt and retimed the engine and all was running well, but I discovered that sometimes a belt could jump a cog on full lock as the same shaft which drove the injector pump also handled the steering pump.  He managed to repeat the fault.  We were advised that a Gates 5335XS was the right belt, but it turned out this was the one that had been fitted.  The alternative was a Gates 5113 and when this was fitted, everything seemed to be ok.  After much checking and testing Heidi finally came home.

Part 3 of this story is my paranoia!  I had a test drive the next day and the engine felt noisier and smokier … gulp.  Took Sandra for a drive the following day and it felt better again and Sandra reported everything was normal!! Yeah!!
