Cam Belt

Ongoing saga.  Part 1

The cam belt has been on my to do list for a while.  The only evidence of a previous change is in 2007 (9 years ago) at 70,000 kms.  We’ve now done 124,000 kms.  It IS time for a new one.  Last trip out I also noticed it the nearside outer cv boot has split.  This needed doing so I booked Heidi in at Bridgefield Garage.  3 days later and a lot of phone calls and unmet promises she was back and it wasn’t horrendous price wise.  Happy days.  Straight off to Silverdale for a couple of days autumn sunshine.  Time to come home.  Started ok, reversed 5yard and bang – stalled as though it had jumped out of gear.  Jumped out to look at cam belt.  Discovered split in cam belt cover taped over after replacement following repair! Not good but at least I could see the belt was there.  Tried to restart.  Nothing but white smoke.  Rescue called.  Man arrives.  Tries to restart with QuickStart fluid.  No joy.  Lorry to come home.  Hey Ho!
