July saw us missing being in Heidi after a month touring France so we had a few days on the North of the Cllyn Peninsula.
We stayed at Aberafon Camp site. which was recommended by a friend for the potential to camp on the beach and have open fires.
It didn’t turn out quite like that however, as the weather let us down. It was windy and with a cold edge to it. Camp fires were on the beach and although it was right next to the campsite there was a 20ft cliff and restricted access. We did have a fire though.
We also had a lovely walk forced on us. We were going to get the bus to Trefor for a look around and maybe walk back, but buses suddenly don’t take dogs because of a recent incident involving poo. When the bus swooped past we decided to walk anyway. It was warm and sunny and felt like a nice idea. We got to Trefor, which was empty apart from a few houses and definitely short of the pub or tea room Sandra was hoping for. We sat on the beach for an hour and then walked back along the shore line beach-combing as we went. As we got nearer to home the sky grew darker, the wind got up and it got a lot colder. Never mind Heidi was waiting for us.
We also spent a day with friends Gill Noel and son Daniel who were camping accross the penninsula and after a lovely shared lunch went to Caernarfon to have a look round. We took a boat tip in the Menai straights and froze to death on the icey waters. We had a nice meal in a real ale pub, although it became a bit of a trial when Dan decided he wanted our food not his mum’s or dad’s which they had chosen to match his tastes. Hey ho!
